HSS Circular Coating Selection Basics
Coating makes or breaks blade performance. Match it to your material, or you'll burn tips and waste time.
Vapo (Black) – Basic anti-rust and light-friction coating. Good for mild steel, angle iron, and square tubing – rough work,
Affordable price and dependable, but no heat resistance.
TiN (Gold) – The industry workhorse. Hard, slippery, and versatile. Perfect for seamless steel pipes, iron pipes, and thick-wall tubing on standard saws with moderate speeds and feeds. Best all-around value.
TiCN (Dark) – Added carbon means higher hardness and wear resistance. Built for high-speed spindles and aggressive feed rates – ideal for automatic tube cutters and high-production lines. Handles repeated impact without chipping.
TiAlN (Black) – The heavy hitter for stainless steel, 304, 316L, and tool steels. Its red-hardness property lets it get stronger as heat builds, forming an oxide layer that insulates the blade. Heavy cuts, tough alloys – this is your only option.
Bottom line: Mild steel? Black or gold. High-speed production? TiCN. Stainless or gummy alloys?
TiAlN, no question. Pick wisely, and you'll double blade life. Pick wrong, and you'll pay for it in downtime and replacements. Simple as that.
