Durability for higher production speeds on difficult to machine solids and heavy walled structures.

See our precision-engineered metal cutting bandsaw blades, designed for superior efficiency. The high performance of these blades effortlessly cut through various metals, delivering clean and precise cuts. Expertly engineered for precision and productivity.

bi-metal band saw blades cover the broadest range of sawing applications and materials. Also known as M42 blades, these offer cost-effectiveness, high performance, and excellent fatigue life. This high-quality industrial and residential saw blade combines the flexibility of a spring-steel backer with the wear resistance of an M-42 high-speed steel tooth. Designed to cut a wide variety of materials, bi-metal saw blades can tackle steel (tool, structural, stainless, etc.), pipes/tubing, angles/flat stock, mixed-metal applications, and much more.

Approximately 95% of companies and individuals cutting these materials use M-42 bi-metal band saw blades. Anyone interested in saw cutting a broad range of shapes, structures, and solids will find these blades indispensable: steel service centers, small to large manufacturers, fabricators, maintenance or job shops, as well as tool and die shops.

Bi-Metal band saw blades feature an oversized blade width to increase beam strength, an M-42 high-speed steel tooth hardened to 69Rc to improve wear resistance, and a variable tooth pitch.

A very popular tooth form, the variable pitch reduces cutting vibration while increasing the speed of the cut. The design accomplishes this by alternating a variable amount of teeth on every inch of the band saw blade. It’s particularly effective when cutting odd-shaped materials liable to produce vibration in the cut—a significant factor that shortens blade life. A variable tooth set also helps reduce tooth strippage that occurs when cutting hard materials.

Bimetal band saw blade is a high quality tool. In order to ensure the best performance and service life, it is extremely important to select the appropriate saw blade, correct running-in and reasonable operation procedures.

productcate-363-217

1. Running-in of saw blades:

The new saw blade must be run in before it is used formally. The service life of a saw blade without running in or without running in is one third or less of that of a saw blade with running in. Only half of the normal feed pressure/rate and cutting speed can be used when the saw blade is running in, until the surface area of 300-1000cm2 is sawn out. Then feed rate and sawing rate are gradually increased.

The speed increases to normal. Saw the sawdust to see whether the sawing pressure and conditions are correct.

2. Sawing speed:

The sawing speed is determined by the type of material, the width of material and the tension of the sawing band. Harder materials must use lower band speeds; smaller widths must use faster band speeds.

3. Saw band pressure and feed rate:

The pressure and feed rate of the saw band are determined by the type of material and the width of the material. Harder materials and materials with larger widths use larger pressures and feed rates; softer materials and smaller widths use smaller pressures and feed rates.

4. Profile sawing:

Please saw the material according to your requirement.

Choose the most suitable type of saw blade; then choose the width of the saw blade according to the minimum radian (radius) of the material you need to saw. The smaller the radian (radius), the narrower the width of the saw blade.

5. Saw blade tension:

Before sawing with a new saw blade, its tension should be checked first. If necessary, tighten after a small amount of sawing. The pre-tension stress of bimetal band saw blade is 250-300N/mm2.

productcate-557-185

6. Band saw orientation:

The sawing accuracy depends on the settings of the guide device of the band saw blade: the closer the device is to the material, the higher the sawing accuracy is.

7. Cooling and lubrication:

Cooling and lubrication are indispensable in most metal sawing processes. For cast iron, brass, and some non-metallic materials. For example, plastics and graphite, lubrication may or may not be necessary during processing.

FAQS

Q: What does bi-metal bandsaw blade mean?

A: Bi-metal blades are band saw blades comprising two different types of metal, as their name suggests. The toothed edge of the blade is made of high-speed steel, while the blade's body is constructed of spring steel. Both sections are then welded together, forming a single blade.

Q: What is the best band saw blade for metal?

A: Carbide band saw blades provide high wear resistance and toughness when cutting a variety of applications such as: case hardened steels, spring steels, high speed steels, nickel based alloys, case hardened steels, composite graphite, high nickel alloys, titanium, inconnel, and other exotic metals.

Q: What is the difference between bi-metal and carbide blades?

A: Carbide tipped sawzall blades are also bi-metal blades, but with a carbide (tungsten carbide or titanium carbide) tip at the end of each tooth. These carbide materials are extremely hard, heat-resistant, and impact-resistant. They also offer 20 times the cutting life of a standard bi-metal blade.

Q: How do I choose a bandsaw blade for metal?

A: There are 3 different blade tooth patterns: raker, wave, and straight. For most metal cutting work, use the raker pattern. But if you are cutting thin work sections, such as tubing, angles, and channels, then consider using a blade with the wave tooth pattern.

Q: Will a bi-metal blade cut stainless steel?

A: This type of blade features high-speed steel teeth, which offer exceptional hardness, heat resistance, and wear resistance. HSS teeth can maintain their sharpness for longer periods, making them ideal for cutting tough materials such as stainless steel, alloy steel, and non-ferrous metals.

Q: What is a bi-metal blade good for?

A: Bimetal blades are metal cutting blades. They are used on band saws to cut carbon steel, tool steel, structural steel, stainless steel, pipes and tubes, die steel, angles and flat stock, and mixed metal applications.

Q: Why can't you use a metal saw on wood?

A: Because metal is a more dense material, the blades used to cut it have more teeth per inch. At times, these blades would work for wood cutting, particularly when you want a very smooth finish. That said, diamond blades, the gold standard for cutting metal, are not appropriate for those working with wood

Q: What width bandsaw blade is best?

A: I'd suggest keeping the blade width to ¼” less than the maximum size that your machine allows. So, if your saw is a typical American style 14” bandsaw, the maximum blade size might be ¾”, so therefore I would recommend a ½” blade.

Q: How many tpi for metal bandsaw blade?

A: Generally, you want a relatively high TPI, somewhere between 14 and 24, for cutting most metals. Check the blade you intend to buy to be sure it is intended for metal cutting. It will usually be wider (1/2" is common) and made of tool steel

Q: What speed should you cut metal with on a bandsaw?

A: And, in fact, it can be anything from 60 up to 300 (SFPM). This is the type of speed which is used for cutting metals such as titanium, aluminium, brass and copper as well as thin steel.

Q: Is it better to cut metal fast or slow?

A: Variable speed saws are ideal, since slower speeds cut best on harder metals like steel. This is one of the slowest ways to cut metal, and it leaves a coarse edge, but it may allow you to get a job done using a tool you already own

Q: Should you use water when cutting metal?

A: Waterjet cutting of metal offers high precision and quality, without the use of heat, which avoids distortion, deformation or structural changes. Metals vary in their material properties and thicknesses, but waterjet cutting enables them to be cut easily and precisely.

Q: How tight should a metal bandsaw blade be?

A: The average psi for band saw blades frequently varies between 15,000 and 30,000 psi, which is why it's essential to consult the manufacturer's recommendations

Q: When cutting metal should you use oil?

A: The Bottom Line. In a nutshell, cutting oil is necessary to protect the drill bit from getting worn out by abrasion. If you will only be drilling metal, then pick a cutting oil designed for that purpose alone.

Q: What is the most accurate way to cut metal?

A: Mechanical cutting processes are common in both small and large shops and are often the best way to cut metal for professional work. Tools like tin snips and bolt cutters are excellent for cutting thin metal, while power tools like angle grinders offer versatility for more advanced applications.

Q: How do you break in a metal bandsaw blade?

A: Run at a reduced down feed rate of 50% or lower (down to 20%) for mild steel and softer metals like aluminum. Run at about 75% of the normal feed rate for harder materials like stainless steel and nickel-based alloys (you need more force with them as they tend to harden quickly).

Q: What is the most common cause of a ruined band saw blade?

A: The most common reason for band saw blade failure is end of life due to wear of the cutting teeth, but also unnatural cutting characteristics, poor cutting surface and band or weld seam breakage.

Q: What to avoid when using a band saw?

A: Never adjust the speed with the machine turned off. Never cut materials that might be hardened, such as tool steel, files, hardened guideways, stainless steel etc. Any material than cannot be cut with a standard hand file should never be cut in a band saw.

Q: What can happen if too much tension is applied to a band saw blade?

A: It's true that the more tension you have on a blade the straighter it will cut. But, you need just the right amount. The result of excessive tension on the blade can cause tiny hairline cracks which lead to premature blade breakage.

Q: Is it safe to use a dull blade on a band saw?

A: A dull saw blade takes a toll on your equipment and your quality of work. Not only that, but it's dangerous to keep using. So how do you know when it's time to replace one? Aside from visual signs like chipped blade teeth or rough cuts in material, you can hear when it's time to replace a dull blade.
