What are the different types of reciprocating saw blades?
There are many different types of reciprocating saw blades that can be used to cut a variety of materials. The main differences are the number of teeth per inch (TPI), the blade material, and/or the shape of the blade.

1. Wood cutting blades typically have 5 to 10 TPI and are best for cutting most types of wood, branches, and softer materials. They can also cut nails.
2. Demolition blades are best for dealing with wood with embedded nails. They are thicker and suitable for heavy-duty work, and the TPI ranges from 6 to 11. You will often see demonstration blades with variable TPI to better cut the various materials encountered in demolition jobs.
3. Combination blades also use a variable pitch configuration, such as 8/11 TPI or 10/14 TPI. These blades can cut both wood and metal. They are a good choice for many jobs because they can cut a variety of materials.
4. Metal cutting blades have a higher number of teeth per inch and can be used to cut harder, denser materials. They are usually 10 to 18 TPI, but can go up to 24 TPI. They can also be used for finishing wood as they leave a smooth edge.
5. Carbide tip blades are used to cut very hard or dense materials such as high-strength alloys, cast iron, and stainless steel. Although they are typically 8 TPI, the ultra-hard and durable carbide tip enables them to cut materials that would break other blades.
6. Carbide grit blades have no teeth - they have a grit surface and are primarily used for cutting tile and masonry.
