Tooth count matters about saw blades

May 16, 2025

If you are in the saw blade business and you are cutting metal,
then there is one question that is critical: "Are you using the right number of teeth?"

"Zi" (number of teeth) is more than just a mathematical formula and helps you calculate how many teeth are involved in cutting at a given time.

The impact of cutting teeth on cut quality and material

Too many teeth and the chips are difficult to evacuate. This ultimately leads to poor cut quality and shortened blade life.

Too few teeth and each tooth is overloaded and under great pressure. The cutting surface is damaged and the blade life is shortened.

Generally, the larger the material, the fewer teeth are needed to maintain a good Zi. Knowing when to change and which saw blade to use is a matter of experience and what professional saw blade factories should do.
